Samsung SPH-M8400 WiMAX+WiFi+WCDMA Phone Now Available for KT
In October WiMAXian featured KT, the second-largest mobile operation in Korea,will release a new smartphone Samsung SPH-M8400 by the end of this year. The unit will offer 3W connectivity-WiBro (WiMAX in Korea), WCDMA and Wi-Fi.
Recently KT launched Samsung SPH-M8400 (aka SHOW Omnia), the world`s first “3W” mobile phone which supports three wireless internet networks - mobile WiMAX,WiFi and WCDMA.

Here’s Samsung SPH-M8400 specs :
- AM-OLED Touch screen
- 3.7 inches (9.3 cm)
- 65,000 color (normal)
- 16 million color (media player, watching T-DBM )
- Resolution: 800 x 480 (WVGA)
- 5MP camera with secondary camera for video calling
- Support T-DBM, Digital Mobile TV in Korea
- 3W Connectivity : WiBro/WiMAX, WCDMA and Wi-Fi
- Compatible with KT`s fixed-mobile convergence service QOOK & SHOW,
- OS : Presumably Windows Mobile 6.5
KT provide both iPhone and Samsung SPH-M8400 but iPhone is currently not compatible with KT`s fixed-mobile convergence service QOOK & SHOW which plans to introduce by the end of next year.
The QOOK & SHOW service will use special handsets that have wireless internet capability to tap into the fixed-line internet network, in effect offering fixed-line VoIP services from a portable device.
KT plans for SHOW Omnia offer larger monthly data capacity compare for iPhone users.SHOW Omnia users are also given 50 percent more monthly data capacity with fixed-rate plans that cover only data usage.
“There are differences in the preset monthly data coverage between iPhones and SHOW Omnia as a result of negotiations with Samsung Electronics, not because KT has any preference between the two,” a KT official said.
