C-motech U-301, the Sprint 3G CDMA/4G WiMAX U301 USB Modem
In July WiMAXian featured C-motech CMU-301 earned WiMAX Forum Certification for dual mode CDMA/WiMAX USB modem.
Recently C-motech released a dual mode ‘U-301′ USB modem that supports 3G CDMA EVDO Rev A and mobile WiMAX Wave 2.
A C-motech staff member said “C-motech will supply ‘U-301′ to Sprint from December.”
The U301 apparently will provided by Franklin Wireless Corp which has facility in San Diego, California but for manufacturing of the Franklin’s products has been contracted out to C-motech Co. Ltd., located in South Korea.

Compared to its predecessor Sprint 3G/4G U300, the Sprint 3G/4G U301 is lighter and it has better performance than the Beceem BCS200 double-chip mobile WiMAX solution in the U300 that was replaced with Beceem BCSM250 single-chip mobile WiMAX solution and Qualcomm QSC6085 for CDMA module.
Beceem boast BCSM250 is the world’s first 65 nm single-chip mobile WiMAX solution. Based on 65 nm CMOS process and integrates dual RF band ( 2.3 – 2.7 GHz and 3.3-3.6 GHz support ), PHY, MAC,memory and power unit and host interfaces based on 65 nanometer technology in a single chip. Housed in an 11mm x 11mm package, this highly integrated solution reduces the power consumption by at least 30% from existing solutions while increasing peak data rates to 40 Mbps. The CMU-301 accommodates a maximum download speed of 10Mbps and a maximum upload speed of 4Mbps from WiMAX, and 3.1Mbps download speed and 1.8Mbps upload speed from CDMA EVDO Rev A.
Also supports the operating systems Windows 7, Vista and XP. We don’t have any information whether U301 support Mac OS X driver or not.
