BanglaLion to Introduce WiMAX Commercially by December
It’s been eight months since WiMAXian featured BanglaLion to launch WiMAX services in Dhaka Bangladesh by June. Many WiMAXian visitors complained about BangaLion’s WiMAX speed and time to market.
Bdnews24 and the Daily Star recently reported that BanglaLion Communications both launched experimental WiMAX operations and a roadshow to make people aware of the high-speed internet.
Chairman of BanglaLion Abdul Mannan inaugurated the high-speed wireless internet service by teleconference from Gulshan. BanglaLion officials said the company is preparing to introduce WiMAX commercially by December.
The company has already set up networks in 15 locations in the capital. “We are committed to providing the high-speed internet at affordable prices,” Mannan said.
In October Digitimes reported that BanglaLion has placed orders for 10,000 WiMAX CPE devices with Taiwan-based Accton Technology and is negotiating orders with Zyxel Communications according to Mannan.
In addition Mannan said that BanglaLion purchased of CPE products include USB network cards, indoor and outdoor WiMAX terminal-end devices, will contact suppliers who offer netbooks with a built-in WiMAX modules.
BanglaLion planned to invest US$250 million to build up its WiMAX infrastructure in the next five years, aiming to increase the number of the company’s WiMAX base stations to 6,000 from 900 currently.
It’s a good news from BanglaLion but they have to catch up Augere Wireless Broadband Bangladesh, backed by UK-based Augere Holdings, that already launched commercial services last month, following a trial introduced in July.
