VMAX and M-Taxi Join to Provide WiMAX-enabled Taxi in Taiwan

Recently at BROADBAND TAIWAN 2009, one of the six WiMAX providers in Taiwan, VMAX Telecom displayed a WiMAX-enabled Taxi from Taipei-based taxi fleet M-Taxi.

Inside the taxi you can see an integrated WiMAX/GPS MID in the back seat running Windows CE, which will allow customers to access Internet, watch IPTV and mobile data services while riding.

Actually the idea of a next-generation car that fully connected with WiMAX isn’t really new idea.

CLEAR already showcased it’s entertainment in car over WiMAX network at Cable Show 2009. At CEATEC JAPAN 2009, Intel parked a concept car with Clarion Mobile Internet Navigation Device (MiND) which connected to UQ WiMAX.

According to Digitimes, the number of taxis under the M-Taxi group that will be installed with the MID will reach 500 by the end of 2009 and increase to 1,000 by February 2010.
