Airspan MacroMAXe : “All-Outdoor, All-in-One” Mobile WiMAX Base Station
In 2004, Airspan made an agreement with NEDA Telecommunications to deploy 3.4GHz WiMAX in Kabul,Afghanistan.
Airspan currently provides a wide range of WIMAX base stations and customer premise devices including award-winning Airspan MiMAX (pronounced “My Max”),the world’s first Quadband, Wave 2 Mobile WiMAX, 2×2 MIMO enabled USB device that turns any laptop into a Mobile WiMAX subscriber device.
In March Airspan announced that Wes-Tex Telecommunications, a division of Wes-Tex Telephone Cooperative, Inc., working with systems integrator Stutler Technologies, selected Airspan advanced WiMAX solutions for deployment in rural Texas.
Using Airspan’s HiperMAX base station equipment in the 3.65 GHz band, the network has full city coverage with multiple base stations communicating with hundreds of outdoor units placed at the customer premises.
HiperMAX is a dual mode (802.16d and 802.16e) macro-cell base station with a split indoor / outdoor architecture designed to support multiple transceiver smart antenna techniques. It is a base station solution optimized for supporting high availability WiMAX services through various levels of system element redundancy.

Airspan has another product, MacroMAX , that integrated with macro-cell WiMAX base stations.

Recently Airspan received WiMAX Forum Certification for MacroMAXe Mobile WiMAX Base Station. This certification is for the 2.5 GHz MacroMAXe against the latest WiMAX Forum Certification Requirements Status List (CRSL). Airspan MacroMAXe is also available for operation in the 2.3, 3.3, 3.4-3.6 and 3.65 GHz frequency bands.
The Airspan MacroMAXe is a class-leading 2nd generation Mobile WiMAX base station which employs the Software Defined Radio (SDR) technology first developed for HiperMAX, together with dual radio transceivers, antennas and GPS receiver all in a highly integrated, physically small and light, all outdoor packaged in an “All-Outdoor, All-in-One” form-factor designed to optimize OPEX.
“Airspan takes great pride in our technological excellence. We continue to offer the industry a best-of-breed solution that supports our customers’ requirements at an affordable price point,” commented Paul Senior, CTO of Airspan Networks and WiMAX Forum Board Member. “The 2.5 GHz frequency band is widely available in the United States, Japan, Asia-Pacific and Africa and will soon be available in Europe as well. We are also increasingly optimistic about growth opportunities for MacroMAXe in the 3.x GHz band, especially the 3.65 GHz band in the United States. We look forward to continuing our certification process for other platforms, supporting a healthy WiMAX ecosystem which benefits operators worldwide.”
