Samsung SPH-M8400, The World’s Largest AM-OLED Display in WiMAX+WiFi+WCDMA Smartphone for KT
In 2008, Samsung became the largest mobile phone maker in the United States and 2nd largest mobile phone maker in the world after Nokia.
According to Displaybank, Samsung has a 90% share of AM-OLED shipments for Q2 2008. Displaybank predicts that LG, CMEL, Sony and especially Samsung will lead the AM-OLED market for 2008. Displaybank forecasts that 3 million units per month will be shipped from early 2009 as more companies enter the AM-OLED market.
No wonder that all the latest Samsung smartphone whether Symbian, Windows Mobile or Android-based equipped with AM-OLED display.Curently Samsung’s largest AM-OLED display fit onto 3.7 inches (9.3 cm) smartphone screen.
AM-OLED technology doesn’t require a backlight therefore it become low-power and low-cost large size screen.
Samsung boasts AM-OLED produce superior brightness means you can read it in sunlight – no more looking for a shady spot to see your screen.
Even using 3.7″ QHD AM-OLED in Samsung HD Icon, you can record high definition (720p) video through it’s built-in 8MP camera and playback in 720p also.

Recently Telecoms Korea reported that KT, the second-largest mobile operation in Korea, will release a new smartphone Samsung SPH-M8400 by the end of this year. The unit will offer 3W connectivity-WiBro (WiMAX in Korea), WCDMA and Wi-Fi.
The M8400 is the second WiBro smartphone following Samsung SCH-M830, which was released for SK Telecom customers in May. However, the SCH-M830 has smaller 3.3inch screen and doesn’t support Wi-Fi connectivity despite SK Telecom’s WiBro/WiMAX service coverage being very limited compared to KT’s.
Further, KT will permit VoIP (Voice over IP) access on SPH-M8400 smartphone to save on calling charges for its customer. We don’t have any information whether it will be VoIP over WiBro/WiMAX or not.
Here’s Samsung SPH-M8400 specs :

- 3.7 inches (9.3 cm)
- 65,000 color (normal)
