Franklin CMU-301 to Become the Next Sprint 3G/4G USB Modem

On December 2008 Sprint launched the world’s first dual-mode 3G CDMA / 4G WiMAX USB Modem, the Sprint 3G/4G USB Modem U300.
The U300 was commercially released by Sprint on December 17th 2008 and is the first USB modem that can be used on Sprint’s existing 3G CDMA network and on Clearwire’s 4G WiMAX network.
The U300 incorporates Beceem’s high-performance Mobile WiMAX chipset alongside an EVDO-Rev A chip.
The U300 provided by Franklin Wireless Corp which has facility in San Diego, California but for manufacturing of the Franklin’s products has been contracted out to C-Motech Co. Ltd., located in South Korea.

C-Motech was a leading developer, supplier and manufacturer of wireless broadband communications products who has been Franklin Wireless’ partner.C-Motech was responsible for design, development, testing, certification, and completion of Franklin Wireless’ products.

Recently C-Motech received certification from WiMAX Forum for dual mode CDMA & WiMAX USB modem, the C-Moteh CMU-301.Presumably CMU-301 also utilized Beceem mobile WiMAX chip same as Sprint 3G/4G USB Modem U300 .

As you can see, there is already Sprint’s logo on the USB Modem. Apparently it will become the next Sprint 3G/4G USB Modem U301.

On the other hand, Clearwire preparing the first EVDO WiMAX modem.William T. Morrow, CEO of Clearwire, said in Clearwire’s Q1 2009 earnings call,”Regarding dual mode devices, we are making good progress in testing 4G/3G modems which will enable customers to benefit from the local Clear 4G networks but also have access to the Sprint 3G network virtually everywhere else. We expect to launch the first EVDO WiMAX modem this summer.”
