ApacheWave APW2050 Low-cost Mobile WiMAX Baseband SoC
Apparently many manufactures aim to develop low-cost Mobile WiMAX Baseband System-on-a-Chip (SoC).The MediaTek M7118 with BOM (Bill of materials) of less than US$100 will have many contender in truly cost effective solution.
Recently ApaceWave Technologies (www.apachewave.com), a developer of high-performance OFDMA solutions for the global WiMAX industry, announced availability of its APW2050 Mobile Station System-on-a-Chip (SoC).

The APW2050 is a high-performance, very low-power, mobile WiMAX Wave 2 baseband SoC containing PHY, MAC, embedded CPU, and many popular data interfaces. Supported by powerful Mobile Station software and multiple real-time operating systems, the SoC requires a minimum of external components to create WiMAX modems for devices such as CPE, PC Cards, USB dongles, and portable handheld devices.
The APW2050 supports all 802.16e mobile WiMAX Wave 2 features, including MIMO Matrix A & B, and Beam Forming. It also supports advanced release-1.5 DL/UL AMC MIMO capability.

The APW2050 is amongst the smallest, most cost-effective, low-power mobile WiMAX baseband SoC available. It is designed using a 65nm process in a 9×9mm package. It contains a high-performance PHY, MAC, embedded CPU, and intelligent power management to achieve very low system power consumption.
ApaceWave said it offers low-cost, manufacturing-ready reference designs for Half-Mini Cards, USB dongles, and SDIO modules. All reference designs utilize single-sided PC boards and can provide transmit output power up to 25dBm.
