Pioneer Show Off Network AV Playback System Over WiMAX Network

Most of us simply accept that when we go on vacation, the TV programming we watch in our living room is inaccessible. Most of us understand that when we’re not at home, we can’t watch the premium channels we pay for. Apparently, most of us are lacking in imagination.

Recently Pioneer show off Network AV Playback System in car at Japan Cable TV & Telecommunications Show 2009 which enabled broadband connection between home network and moving vehicles.

This technology uses “Community WiMAX,” which is provided mainly by Mobile WiMAX and cable TV operators, to enable TV programs and music recorded at home to be received and streamed on a car navigator or similar device.

Pioneer currently offers car navigators that can use a mobile signal called Air Navi to communicate. From now on, as Mobile WiMAX and Community WiMAX services get started, Pioneer wants to release card-type devices that can play mobile network media.

The Pioneer’s prototype system presumably developed in the same preference design with Slingbox that utilized by CLEAR when demonstrated full entertainment in car over WiMAX network.

So it’s not a new concept, actually Sling Media (slingmedia.com) has packaged it up real nice, simplified it and given it a name: “Placeshifting” technology grabs your television signal and sends it anywhere in the world.

The Sling Media’s Slingbox is a TV streaming device that enables users to remotely view their home’s cable, satellite, or personal video recorder (PVR) programming from an Internet-enabled computer with a broadband Internet connection. The Slingbox connects to your TV (or any other video-output device) and streams the signal to another machine in real-time — there’s no recording involved. This machine might be your computer in your home, in which case Slingbox streams the signal via your home network. It might be your Web-connected laptop or cell phone located anywhere in the world, in which case Slingbox streams the data via the Web. You can control the video that appears on your screen just like you were watching from home. There are several types of Slingboxes, ranging from the Classic Slingbox (the original model) to the Slingbox PRO-HD. They all perform the same basic function: delivering live television from your TV to a networked device.
