In November 2008 Aria (www.ariadsl.it) had signed an agreement with Alcatel Lucent for the initial implementation of WiMAX networks in Veneto and Puglia.But networks still inactive perhaps delays due to Alcatel facing big crisis in recent months.
Recently Aria selected Alvarion to deploy a nationwide mobile WiMAX network in Italy.Alvarion is the largest WiMAX pure-player with the most extensive WiMAX customer base and over 250 commercial deployments around the globe including a nationwide WiMAX network in Burkina Faso.

Aria will build a network to offer broadband services to all 21 Italian regions using Alvarion’s 4Motion Mobile WiMAX solution incorporating the WiMAX Forum Certified BreezeMAX platform.

The 3.5 GHz WiMAX spectrum has been demonstrated globally to offer a significantly lower price per Hz per population covered than 2.5 GHz spectrum.Aria would be well positioned with investments in 3.5 GHz spectrum, taking the savings from spectrum expense and applying it toward capital spend in the network displacing the cost of the additional sites and benefiting from the added capacity of the system.

Intel recently demonstrated the 3.5 GHz WiMAX-enabled notebook and when available at market it would be better if Aria provide the 3.5 GHz notebook to its subscriber.
