CLEAR WiMAX Available in Las Vegas

Last month William T. Morrow, CEO of Clearwire confirmed the next city to roll out, “Network construction and preparation of our sales channels is also progressing in Las Vegas, where we are planning a late summer launch”.

Recently Unstrung get more detail information from Clearwire side:
“In advance of our full commercial launch of Las Vegas scheduled for this summer, we are now selling CLEAR service as part of our operational readiness activities,” Clearwire spokeswoman Jennifer Morgan says. “Store openings, advertising, and other market activities will be a part of our full commercial launch, but residents of Las Vegas can now go to Clear.com and order services.”

Michael Gossett (www.michaelgossett.me) an IT blogger from Las Vegas recently got opportunity to test CLEAR WiMAX in Vegas. He signed up for the $50/mo service. He complained about the connection speed. He had only 4Mbit ( compare to 6Mbit that CLEAR sales guy who told him )  even in areas with full signal strength. His major complaint was the home router they give you they do not allow him to switch it from NAT to Bridge mode, the firmware actually disables the option.

Overall he admitted that the service will get better and he think this will be a great alternative to his clients that can’t or won’t go to any of the other providers.”The $50/mo for office including the Executive’s being able to take a device with them in their travels around town is very appealing” according to Michael.

No wonder WiMAX goes live in Las Vegas, because Vegas is a relatively simple market to set-up and running.

Last year at CES 2008, Intel’s Julie Coppernoll hosted a WiMAX tour of Las Vegas in one of Intel’s CES WiMAX cars. Enjoy the video !
