GemTek Provide WiMAX CPE Product for Green Packet

GemTek is a dedicated and experienced wireless professional solution provider since last 20 years. As a principle member in WiMAX Forum , GemTek started developing WiMAX product since 2004, and have the commercial product from January 2006. Gemtek provide one-stop shopping service, professional system integration and best-in-class ODM/OEM manufacturing to the customers.

Digitimes reported that Gemtek Technology expects its revenues to grow more robustly in the second half of 2009 thanks to increasing shipments of IP set-top boxes (STBs), WiMAX devices, and integrated WLAN/WiMAX modules, according to company managing director Kevin Yang.Gemtek’s shipments of WiMAX CPE products are expected to double to one million units in 2009 compared to 500,000 units shipped in 2008, Yang projected.
In addition, Digitimes reported data from Taiwan’s Market Intelligence Center (MIC) that Taiwan-based network equipment makers are likely to reach 413,000 and 485,000 units in the second and third quarters of 2009 respectively, due to strong demand from emerging markets as well as the launch of commercial WiMAX services by a number of operators worldwide, including Japan’s UQ Communications and Malaysia’s Packet One Networks.
GemTek apparently is the major OEM/ODM partner of Green Packet. The parent company of Packet One Network (P1) WiMAX Malaysia.myWireless newsletter reported an article of Malaysia’s SIRIM certified Packet One for Consumer Premise Equipment/A1427 manufactured by GemTek Technology Co Ltd.
“Another area we place great emphasis on is certifications for our WiMAX equipment. The end-user modems, base stations and microwave links have received the necessary certifications by SIRIM” said P1’s CEO, Michael Lai.

The GemTek IDV 230G looks similar to Green Packet DV-230 with same color and glossy finished material.Green Packet presumably developed DV-230 P1 WiMAX modem with built-in WiFi Router based on GemTek IDV 230G .Also the Green Packet DV-230 has VoIP capability. The phone port is for a normal phone connection. However, voice services are not currently available from P1.
GemTek IDV 230 802.16e Wave2 VoIP Gateway is available in 230G (2.3 – 2.4 GHz), 250G (2.5-2.7 GHz) and 350G (3.3 – 3.6 GHz).See the detail product specs (PDF) .
In the near future GemTek is expected to benefit from the launch of more notebooks with built-in WiMAX modules by brand vendors including Acer, Asustek Computer, Dell and Hewlett-Packard (HP) and to begin shipping WiMAX/WLAN modules to Intel later in the year.
