P1 Unveils ‘WIGGY’ USB WiMAX Modem

Last year P1 announced its plan to launch a USB WiMAX modem in Q1 2009.

Packet One Networks (P1) gave members of the media a sneak preview of its USB WiMAX modem called WIGGY at Packet Hub, its headquarters in Petaling Jaya on 6 April.

Wiggy expected to be officially launch at PC Fair in Kuala Lumpur on April 10.

Wiggy was designed and developed locally by P1’s parent Green Packet and manufactured by Taiwan’s OEM company.

  • Modem Max Speed: DL- 30Mbps UL- 7Mbps
  • Power: 5V through USB
  • Weight: 50g
  • Supported OS: XP & Vista. Not available for Mac or Linux.

Price will be between RM99  - RM199 (around USD27.84- USD55.95).

Meanwhile, P1 launched its WiMAX service in Penang on 2 April, with coverage at launch of Penang’s business and lifestyle areas, such as Georgetown, Gurney Drive, Jalan Burmah, Jalan Kebun Bunga, Jalan Free School, Penngkalan Weld, as well as key areas on mainland Penang state including Butterworth, Kampung Jawa, Kampung Perlis and Kampung Bengali.
