Zain ISP and Mada Launched WiMAX in Jordan

Zain Internet Service provider (ISP) and Mada (a consortium between Zain Jordan and Mada Communications Group) recently announced the commercial launch of the 4G wireless broadband WiMAX network in Jordan. Jordan, officially the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, is an Arab country in Southwest Asia spanning the southern part of the Syrian Desert down to the Gulf of Aqaba. Much of Jordan is covered by desert, particularly the Arabian Desert.


The capital city of Amman is in the north-west.

The 4G wireless broadband project would be later launched on a regional scale in Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon through the optic-fiber technology.

The end-to-end 802.16e-based WiMAX network, which was deployed in six months by Motorola, ensures peak performance delivery of fixed and nomadic voice and data services to residential and enterprise customers.

Motorola supplied equipment from its extensive WiMAX portfolio including WiMAX access points (WAP 400 and WAP 800) as well as indoor and outdoor customer premises equipment and portable plug-in devices such as the indoor CPEi 750, WiFi-enabled CPEi775, outdoor CPEo 400, and the award- winning USB plug-in device — the USBw 100.

This service is considered to be the first of its kind in the Kingdom in terms of speed, strength of coverage,
geographic outreach, and the availability of a user friendly plug and play device.

According to Zain ISP General Manager Abdallah Faza, the wireless broadband internet service will initially target Amman, Zarqa and Irbid and will later expand to include all parts of Jordan.

Faza further noted that Zain will offer this service to both companies and individuals through either Zain Connect (CPE) for 199 JD (USD 280.88) or monthly rental fees 6 JD (USD 11.29). For the Zain e-Go; a USB device that can fit in one’s pocket for 99 JD (USD 139.73)

Zain ISP offer several package plans at speeds of up to 5 Mbps :

Zain ISP also provide special offer in limited quantity which is free Zain e-Go device (For 2.4Mbps & 5Mbps speeds upon yearly payments).

Zain Connect device apparently either Motorola CPEi750 or CPEi775.Both are slightly in the same product design. But the CPEi 775 is WiMAX CPE includes a built-in WiFi router in addition to ATA ports for Voice over IP (VoIP).

For the Zain e-Go device definitely is the award- winning USB plug-in device — the Motorola USBw100.
