P1 and ZTE Ink USD 28 Mio WiMAX Contract
Recently we featured P1and ZTE plan to make collaboration. On March 20,Packet One Networks (P1) and ZTE have completed the signing of a US$28.3 million (RM103.6 million) contract to expand its high-speed wireless network in the country.Both design and deploy WiMAX equipment over 450 sites for the phase two of P1’s rollout plans.The phase two of P1 WiMAX network expansion is expected to be completed by end-2010.
P1 expects to deploy approximately 700 new base stations by the end of the year. ZTE’s deployment will focus on rural regions and the states along the East Coast and in Penang.
P1 will spend around MYR1 billion (USD274.3 million) to support the WiMAX network rollout over the next five years, and has said it is on track to reach 35% population coverage for its WiMAX network by the end of 2009.
