Motorola USBw100 is Available as Aerea’s USB WiMAX Dongle

As we can see there is word print on the Aerea USB Dongle’s cover which state “Alcatel-Lucent 9799 MIMO USB Dongle 3.5GHz”
I checked Alcatel-Lucent website and there is no available data for WiMAX product code 9799.

Apparently Alcatel-Lucent has joined with Motorola to provide USB WiMAX Dongle for Aerea.

Update : Probably it wasn’t Motorola’s. You might read this also Aerea USB WiMAX Dongle Manufactured by OEM/ODM Company Not Motorola.

The USB Dongle looks very similar to Motorola USBw100. The frequency band that support 3.5Ghz (Aerea’s frequency) is available in USBw35100 (3400 – 3600 MHz)

Aerea has good supporting service regarding this USB dongle. They provide online user guide (pdf)  and download software.
The USB dongle is compatible with Microsoft Windows XP and Vista. Unfortunately it doesn’t support Mac.

Update :
Aerea recently released Mac OSX driver for this USB Dongle.

Price of the USB dongle is € 89,95 (around $125.6)

Aerea introduced USB dongle on October 29,2008. So it must be earlier than Clear in utilizing Motorola USBw100 as USB WiMAX modem

Not correct. The Alcatel-Lucent 9799 MIMO USB dongle is manufactured by ODM called Quanta (in China, Shenzen).
So it is not a Motorola dongle.
  • Hi J, thanks for the tip. I already check, and what I found is Quanta Computer Inc,known as One Laptop per Child (OLPC) maker, based not in Shenzen-China, but in Taiwan. Quanta Microsystems, Inc. (QMI) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Quanta Computer Inc.QMI is currently developing RF products with IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n (WiFi), 802.15.3a (Zigbee), 802.15.4 (UWB) and 802.16 d/e (WiMax) standards.
I will dig more information whether Aerea USB WiMAX dongle manufactured by QMI or not. Thanks again.
