Pakistan has The World’s Largest WiMAX Network – Will America Catch Up ?

At the moment, Pakistan enjoys the world’s largest WiMAX network. Wateen Telecom rolled out WiMAX in 17 cities throughout Pakistan on a platform built with Motorola equipment as an article wrote by Richard Grigonis for Internet Telephony Magazine.

The success story started at January 28, 2008, when Motorola signed a contract with Wateen Telecom-Pakistan for the supply of 198,000 end-user WiMAX customer premises equipment (CPE) devices for both indoor and outdoor use.

Motorola claim Wateen Telecom having 17 cities deployed in fewer than 9 months.It’s residential and business voice and data on 3,5GHz,fixed WiMAX.

Although it fewer than Wateen’s list of coverage city in Pakistan now. At least 22 major cities are in the list.

Wateen claim more than 10,000 registered customers in 20 days and the count still going strong.

Recently Wateen announce its new tariffs that offer affordable WiMAX broadband package for 5GB capacity, at speed of 256Kbps.This package is only Rs 499 or around $6.3

Another Wateen innovation is WCard. It’s prepaid card for internet broadband and telephony. Available for Rs.50 ($0.63) up to Rs.2000 ($25.4)
