Due to schedule of officially launch in Portland on January 2009, now in early December, Clear (Clearwire’s brand name for WiMAX service) begin to allow customer to sign in the service contract for the WiMAX network. At Clear’s official Website https://www.clear.com/ ,state that Clear has Portland covered all over the town.
Sam Churchill (Dailywireles) has experience how easy to take order of the service plans at Clear’s office. He signed up Home internet plans, choose their mid-level service (“fast”) that delivers unlimited (3M down/384K up) internet access. It costs $30/month and additional activation fee for $35.

Sam choose the gear which is Motorola WiMAX residential modem and gets 3 out of 5 bars. He confess it’s about as fast as his cable modem but Clear is cheaper than 3Mbps DSL or Cable Modem service.
Sam made self-test of internet connection speed compare with Comcast Cable Modem (local broadband provider). The result is Clear get 3031Kbps (download), 383 Kbps (upload)

and for the Comcast get 4229 Kbps (download), 375 Kbps (upload).

Final result Comcast has faster internet connection.
And then he checked Comcast’s Cable Modem price, their service cost him more, $22.99/month ($19.95/mo for service (no tv cable) plus $3/month for the modem). After 3 months he would have to pay $52.95 for the same 3 Mbps service.
