Africa’s New Commercial WiMAX Network to Built by ZTE

After XOHM has just switched on the first U.S. commercial WiMAX network in Baltimore. And then will be coming soon to Washington DC and Chicago. WiMAX getting spread out across the world,start with America (XOHM, Redline), Rusia (Yota), Korea (WiBro), Pakistan (Wateen),and many more. The broadband went to Africa,brought by China’s ZTE joint with Mauritanian’s Chinguitel.
It will be the first major commercial WiMAX network across the entire African continent. According to the contract, ZTE will provide core network equipment, wireless access equipment and various communication terminal devices for indoor and outdoor use. Neither ZTE nor Chinguitel have divulged the financials detail of the contract. “ZTE is privileged to closely collaborate with ETG in developing the first ever and highly reliable WiMax commercial network in Africa,” said Xu Shengfei, chief representative of ZTE Mauritania. “ZTE is committed to providing our expertise and solutions to further expand more strategic partnerships in Africa.” Mauritania has a complicated geographical landscape with a total land area of more than 1 million square kilometers, facing the Sahara desert in the east and the Atlantic Ocean in the west. With such complicated geography, it becomes highly important for telecom operators to establish a stable and efficient  WiMax network, Shengfei explained.”Chinguitel is confident that ZTE can provide the African population with the most effective wireless and highly advanced communications platform to enjoy access of various wireless services,” said Elamir, CEO of Chinguitel.
